Igor Tudor Takes Interim Charge at Tottenham Hotspur After Frank Dismissal
Igor Tudor has been appointed as the interim manager of Tottenham Hotspur, following the dismissal of Thomas Frank earlier this week. This decision comes after a disappointing series of performances that left the north London club just five points above the relegation zone. In a bid to stabilize the team and avoid a late-season collapse, the Spurs board acted swiftly.
At 47 years old, Tudor returns to management after leaving Juventus in October 2025. His tenure in Turin ended after the team experienced an eight-match winless streak, causing them to drop to eighth place in Serie A. Tudor has a wealth of experience, having managed across several top European leagues, including stints at Lazio, Marseille, Galatasaray, and Udinese.
Coaching History and Impact
Tudor’s most notable achievement came during his time at Lazio, where he took over from Maurizio Sarri in March 2024. At that time, Lazio was struggling in ninth place, but Tudor managed to guide the team to a seventh-place finish and qualification for the UEFA Europa League, winning five out of his nine matches in charge. Despite the positive turnaround, he chose to step down at the end of that season.
His only managerial trophy to date was with his hometown club, Hajduk Split, which he led to victory in the Croatian Cup in 2013. As a player, Tudor had a distinguished career, notably spending nine years at Juventus, where he claimed two Serie A titles and was a runner-up in the 2003 UEFA Champions League final. He also represented Croatia in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, contributing to the team’s impressive third-place finish.
Future Prospects and Competition
While Tudor’s appointment is temporary, a successful run could position him as a strong candidate for the permanent role. Tottenham previously considered various short-term candidates, including former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic and ex-RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose.
Former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, currently the head coach of the United States men’s national team, remains a long-term option. Additionally, Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly being considered after his recent departure from Marseille. The upcoming matches will be crucial for Tudor as he seeks to instill confidence and stability within the squad.
