Liver Expert Challenges Deepinder Goyal’s Gravity Aging Theory
On November 15, 2023, Deepinder Goyal, the CEO of Eternal, sparked controversy with his “Gravity Aging Hypothesis,” proposing that gravity may accelerate the aging process. In a series of posts on X, Goyal suggested that reduced blood flow to the brain over time due to gravity could be a significant factor in human aging. He clarified that he was sharing this theory not solely in his corporate capacity but as a curious individual exploring a peculiar idea.
Goyal’s comments coincided with his company’s involvement in aging and longevity research, raising questions about the motivations behind his assertions. “I’m not sharing this as the CEO of Eternal, but as a fellow human, curious enough to follow a strange thread,” he wrote, aiming to engage followers in a discussion about the connection between gravity and aging.
Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, widely recognized as The Liver Doc, quickly countered Goyal’s claims. He criticized the theory as “reductionist” and “mono-causal,” asserting that aging results from complex biological processes rather than gravitational influence. According to Dr. Philips, factors such as DNA damage, bodily stress, and inflammation play crucial roles in the aging process.
In his response, Dr. Philips speculated that Goyal’s theory might be a precursor to marketing a product aimed at consumers seeking longevity solutions. “He’s definitely sharing this as the CEO of Eternal because they are planning to build some sort of ‘device’… and sell it to gullible people who want to live forever,” he stated. His remarks suggest skepticism about the motivations behind the hypothesis and the potential commercialization of such ideas.
Dr. Philips added a lighthearted note, recommending that people might enhance their longevity by opting to cook at home rather than relying on food delivery services like Zomato, which is part of Goyal’s portfolio. This playful jab highlighted the ongoing debate not just about aging theories but also about lifestyle choices in contemporary society.
As the conversation unfolds, the clash between Goyal and Dr. Philips underscores the complexities surrounding discussions of health and aging in the modern world. With ongoing research in areas such as genetics and lifestyle impacts, the dialogue around aging remains both vital and contentious.
