Jharkhand Congress Advocates for Biotechnology in Eligibility Test
The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) has urged the inclusion of biotechnology as a subject in the upcoming Jharkhand Eligibility Test (JET), which is organized by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC). In a formal communication sent to the Chief Minister’s office and the JPSC, JPCC General Secretary Alok Dubey expressed concern over the current subject offerings.
In his letter, Dubey highlighted that the recent advertisement for the JET only lists botany and zoology under life sciences. He pointed out that biotechnology is widely taught across major universities in the state, including Ranchi University, Vinoba Bhave University, and Binod Bihari Mahto Kolhan University. He noted that numerous private institutions also offer this vital subject.
Dubey emphasized that thousands of students in Jharkhand pursue biotechnology each year with aspirations of entering academia and research. He stated, “The exclusion of biotechnology from the JET has disappointed many students who are dedicated to this field.” He warned that without formal recognition in the eligibility test, the future of biotechnology education in Jharkhand could be jeopardized.
Call for Inclusion and State Comparisons
The JPCC secretary requested the JPSC to reconsider the subject’s omission, arguing that such inclusion would greatly benefit the advancement of modern biological sciences and contribute to the overall development of the state. Dubey referenced state eligibility tests in other regions, as well as national examinations, which acknowledge biotechnology as a valid option within life sciences.
Despite the significance of this issue, JPSC officials have not responded to requests for comments regarding the concerns raised by Dubey and the JPCC. This silence raises questions about the commission’s stance on the matter and its commitment to adapting to educational trends that align with the state’s needs.
As the announcement for the JET approaches, the outcome of this request could have lasting implications for students and educational institutions alike. The inclusion of biotechnology could not only enhance the educational framework in Jharkhand but also ensure that the state remains competitive in the evolving landscape of higher education.
