Eight BDU Scientists Ranked Among World’s Top 2% by Stanford
Eight scientists from Bharathidasan University (BDU) have been recognized in this year’s rankings by Stanford University as being among the top 2% of scientists globally. This prestigious list highlights the academic achievements and contributions of researchers in various fields, with the inclusion of BDU professors underscoring the institution’s commitment to excellence.
The professors recognized in the rankings include M. Lakshmanan and M. Ramesh from the field of Physics and Chemistry, respectively, as well as M. Palaniandavar (Chemistry), S. Dhanuskodi (Physics), N. Thajuddin (Microbiology), M. Sathiyabama (Botany), R. Rajaram (Marine Science), and T.C. Sabari Girisun (Physics). The announcement was made via a press release from the university.
Achievements of Recognized Scientists
Among the eight scientists, Professors Lakshmanan and Ramesh received recognition in both the career-long impact and single-year 2024 lists. Professor M. Lakshmanan is celebrated as a leading expert in nonlinear dynamics, contributing significantly to the field. Professor M. Ramesh has made substantial advancements in organometallics and metal-mediated organic synthesis, establishing himself as a notable figure in modern chemistry.
Professor M. Palaniandavar is acknowledged in the career-long impact category for his expertise in bioinorganic chemistry. Meanwhile, Professors S. Dhanuskodi, N. Thajuddin, M. Sathiyabama, R. Rajaram, and T.C. Sabari Girisun were listed in the single-year 2024 category. Dhanuskodi has made significant strides in lasers and nonlinear optical materials, while Thajuddin is recognized for his extensive work on microbiology, particularly in cyanobacteria and microalgal taxonomy.
Sathiyabama’s research has focused on molecular plant pathology, contributing valuable insights into plant health and disease. Rajaram specializes in marine science and microbial remediation, demonstrating his commitment to addressing environmental challenges. Lastly, Sabari Girisun is noted for his research in nanophotonics and laser applications, pushing the boundaries of technology in this area.
