Tripura CM Saha Highlights Government Efforts for Tribal Welfare

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of tribal communities during a recent event in Simna. Speaking at a program organized by the BJP in which he welcomed 1,406 voters from 375 families, he asserted that adequate funding is being allocated for development in the Janajati areas. Despite these efforts, Dr. Saha expressed concern over misleading statements intended to sow division within the tribal community.

The Chief Minister urged community members to remain vigilant against those promoting politics that divides castes and tribes. He stressed the importance of unity, promoting the message of “Ek Tripura, Srestha Tripura,” which translates to “One Tripura, Great Tripura.”

During his address, Dr. Saha highlighted the unwavering support of prominent leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President JP Nadda, who consistently advocate for the advancement of tribal populations. He noted, “They are truly working for the development of the Janajatis,” referencing the significant role of Droupadi Murmu, the first tribal woman to serve as President of India.

Dr. Saha pointed out historical milestones, such as the appointment of Jishnu Debbarma, a member of the royal family, as Governor of Telangana, indicating the recognition of tribal representation in high offices. He reaffirmed the BJP’s inclusive philosophy of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas,” which translates to “Together with all, Development for all, Trust of all.”

The financial commitments made by the BJP government since taking office in 2018 have been substantial. Dr. Saha mentioned that an honorary allowance of ₹2,000 was introduced for tribal community leaders, which has recently been increased to ₹5,000. Furthermore, he reported a significant budget allocation for the development of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). In the fiscal year 2024-25, approximately ₹6,500 crore will be dedicated to TTAADC, constituting 39.06% of the total expenditure. For the subsequent year, 2025-26, a further allocation of around ₹7,149 crore has been made.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tribal development. He noted improvements in educational support, mentioning that students from Classes VI to VIII received a pre-metric scholarship of ₹400 annually. Additionally, blocks in tribal-dominated areas have been designated as aspirational blocks to enhance developmental efforts.

Dr. Saha concluded by reiterating the government’s dedication to addressing the needs of tribal communities, emphasizing that progress is being made in various sectors. He called for unity among tribal groups, urging them to collaborate for their collective advancement and to resist divisive politics.
