Telangana CM Requests Meeting with President for BC Reservation Bills

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has formally requested an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu on either August 5, 6, or 7, to advocate for the clearance of two significant bills regarding reservations for Backward Classes (BC) in the state. These bills were approved by the Telangana Assembly and submitted to the President via the Telangana Governor on March 30, 2025.

During a cabinet meeting held at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat on July 28, 2025, the cabinet discussed the implications of a recent directive from the Telangana High Court. The court has ordered the state government and the Telangana State Election Commission to conduct local body elections within three months, which has heightened the urgency surrounding the 42 percent BC reservation in these elections.

Following the cabinet meeting, the BC Welfare Minister urged political leaders, regardless of their party affiliations, as well as BC associations and activists, to travel to New Delhi. The goal is to amplify pressure on the central government to pass the two proposed legislations. He emphasized that the state government would explore all avenues to compel the Centre to consider the demand for implementing the 42 percent reservation for BCs in Telangana.

Criticism was directed at the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), N. Ramchander Rao, for opposing the BC reservations in education, employment, and political representation. This opposition stands in contrast to the support his party’s MLAs showed during the assembly vote when the bills were passed.
