Iranian-born actor Mandana Karimi has announced her intention to leave India and return to Iran, citing feelings of betrayal after protesting against the Iranian government. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, she expressed her hope for a future Iran that offers greater opportunities for women.

Karimi revealed that her decision to relocate is contingent upon a change in the Iranian regime. She articulated her desire for a “free Iran” where women can enjoy equal rights and access to education. “What I see for Iran is a free Iran where women can do whatever they want, wear whatever they want, whatever university they want to go to and study,” she stated. Her vision includes Iran fostering positive relationships within the Middle East, emphasizing that it should not be perceived as a threat, but rather as a nation that contributes to regional development.

The 37-year-old actor, known for her appearance on the reality show Bigg Boss 9, reflected on her experiences in India, stating, “I feel I am breaking up with India.” Despite the support and love she has received throughout her career, she expressed a sense of voicelessness in the country. “I feel I don’t have a voice in India,” she explained, noting that her outspoken stance against the Iranian regime has resulted in the loss of friendships in Mumbai.

Karimi’s relationship with India has been complex. While she acknowledges that India has given her a platform for her modelling and acting careers, she feels it is time to move on. “India has given me what it was supposed to give, and now it’s time to move on,” she said. Her sentiments reflect a broader struggle faced by many Iranians, both within and outside their homeland, as they navigate the challenges posed by the current regime.

In her commentary on the ongoing tensions in the region, Karimi described the Iranian government as “a cancerous cell in the Middle East.” Her remarks highlight the persistent unrest that has become a defining aspect of life for many Iranians. As she prepares for her potential return to Iran, she remains hopeful for a future where her country thrives and women can pursue their aspirations without restrictions.

The actor’s planned move underscores the deep personal impact of geopolitical issues, illustrating how individual lives are intertwined with the broader narrative of national identity and freedom. Karimi’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the complexities faced by those caught between conflicting loyalties and aspirations.
