BJP’s CR Kesavan Critiques Congress After Aiyar’s Kerala Prediction
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader CR Kesavan has publicly criticized Congress veteran Mani Shankar Aiyar following Aiyar’s prediction of a win for the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. Kesavan’s comments underscore concerns about the effectiveness of Congress leadership in the state and reflect ongoing tensions within the party.
Kesavan stated that Aiyar’s remarks reveal significant issues within Congress, particularly regarding the party’s leadership under Rahul Gandhi. Speaking to the press agency ANI, he remarked, “Mani Shankar Aiyar’s blistering attack on his own party proved that Rahul Gandhi is the biggest political liability in Indian politics, and also very clearly underlines how the negative politics of polarisation has absolutely no takers.”
He further emphasized the implications of Aiyar’s statements, describing them as a “vote of no confidence” that highlights failures in Congress’s ability to connect with the electorate in Kerala.
Mani Shankar Aiyar’s Controversial Remarks
Earlier, in an interview with ANI, Mani Shankar Aiyar expressed his personal desire for the United Democratic Front (UDF) to succeed but predicted a victory for the ruling LDF. He stated, “As a Congressman, I want the UDF to come to power. As a Gandhian, I’m telling the truth that after the brilliant achievements of the Pinarayi government, the Left government is bound to come to power.”
Aiyar’s comments have stirred controversy, raising questions about loyalty within the Congress party. He characterized the electorate in Kerala as “the most intelligent and the most independent-thinking of any people in India.” Despite his affiliation with Congress, Aiyar’s candid remarks have prompted the party to distance itself from his statements, asserting that he does not represent their collective views.
In response to the backlash, Aiyar stated, “Rahul Gandhi has forgotten that I am a member of the party. And therefore, I am a Gandhian. I am a Nehruvian. I am a Rajivian, but I’m not a Rahulian.” This statement illustrates Aiyar’s frustration with the current leadership and hints at the discontent brewing within the Congress ranks.
As the Kerala Assembly elections approach, the dynamics within the Congress party and the broader political landscape continue to evolve. The contrasting predictions from Aiyar and the criticisms from Kesavan highlight the intense competition and the significance of leadership perceptions in shaping voter sentiment.
