The city of Varanasi has made significant strides in industrial development, surpassing its investment target ahead of the upcoming Global Investors Summit (GBC 5.0). A review meeting held at the Collectorate auditorium on Thursday, chaired by district magistrate Satyendra Kumar, revealed that Varanasi achieved an investment of ₹6,439.99 crore, exceeding the Uttar Pradesh government’s target of ₹6,000 crore. This accomplishment represents approximately 107% of the projected goal.

Positive Developments in Industrial Landscape

According to local authorities, the total investment includes projects worth ₹3,555.26 crore that have been registered on the Nivesh Sarathi portal. The district has proposed a total of ₹21,589.22 crore in investments through 198 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). Currently, 70 projects are fully operational, with ₹2,760.69 crore already invested on-site. Work is advancing rapidly on the remaining 52 projects.

The industrial department is actively pursuing the establishment of a textile park on 75 acres in Ramna Village. Several meetings with organizations such as the Indian Industries Association and Uttar Pradesh Export Association have been conducted to foster investor interest, with local stakeholders expressing optimism about the developments.

Efficient Administrative Response

In the financial year 2025-26, out of 5,980 applications received on the Nivesh Mitra Portal, 5,430 have been approved, showcasing administrative efficiency. During the meeting, the district magistrate instructed the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) and other departments to coordinate effectively with investors, ensuring timely resolution of any issues they encounter.

Additionally, the district magistrate addressed concerns raised by Rajesh Bhatia, chairman of the Small Industries Association, regarding the industrial estate in Chandpur. He directed officials to allow electricity bill payments for industrial power connections via cheque and emphasized the need for increased police patrolling to enhance security in the area. Proposals for a flatted factory in the district were also encouraged to support the growing industrial activity.

With these developments, Varanasi is poised to strengthen its industrial base further, creating opportunities for investment and job growth as it approaches the Global Investors Summit.
