Van Donation Enhances Eye Care for Underprivileged Infants

Praveen Krishna, the Medical Director of Radhatri Nethralaya, emphasized the importance of this donation. He noted that many families in rural areas face significant barriers in accessing timely medical care for their infants. A pressing concern highlighted by Vasumathy Vedantham, also a Medical Director, is that ROP is the leading cause of childhood blindness in middle-income countries. In India, a shortage of pediatric retina specialists exacerbates the situation, making early diagnosis and treatment vital. “Rural screening requires innovative solutions such as teleophthalmology and hand-held retinal cameras,” Vedantham remarked, pointing out the need for improved technology and resources to combat the rising incidence of ROP.
