According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-4 Anand Kaladgi, police arrived promptly after receiving information about a chaotic situation. “We learned that some of the individuals had consumed an unknown substance, causing several people to fall ill,” Kaladgi stated to reporters, as noted by the ANI news agency.

Medical personnel from the government-run Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital confirmed that all patients are currently stable, although the exact nature of the substance consumed remains unverified. Dr. Basant Kumar Ningwal, the superintendent-in-charge of the hospital, reported, “Around 25 people from the transgender community have been admitted to our hospital. They have claimed to have consumed phenyl together.”

While Dr. Ningwal emphasized the stability of the patients, he also highlighted that the claims regarding phenyl consumption could not be immediately substantiated. “This cannot be confirmed at this stage,” he added.

The reasons behind this alarming event remain unclear. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotiya indicated that a thorough investigation is necessary to establish both the nature of the substance and the motivations for its consumption. “Only after investigation will it become clear as to what substance the transgender community individuals had consumed, and why,” Dandotiya explained.
