Tamil Nadu Celebrates Sports Achievements with Government Jobs and New Infrastructure
Tamil Nadu is set to host the ‘Champions of Tamil Nadu’ event, where Chief Minister MK Stalin will award government jobs to 175 sportspersons, allocate Rs 33.5 crore in incentives, and initiate the foundation for a new International Sports City in Chennai. This celebration, organized by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), marks five years of significant achievements in the state’s sports sector and will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.
The event will see the distribution of appointment orders to over 175 athletes under the state’s 3 percent sports quota for government employment. Among the beneficiaries, there are 50 para-athletes, showcasing the government’s commitment to inclusivity in sports.
Infrastructure and Incentives for Athletes
In addition to job opportunities, a total incentive amount of Rs 33.5 crore will be awarded to 1,172 sportspersons in recognition of their outstanding achievements across various levels of competition. This financial support is intended to encourage continued excellence and commitment in sports.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Stalin will lay the foundation stone for the first phase of the International Sports City project, which is estimated to cost Rs 261 crore. This initiative aims to enhance sports infrastructure in Tamil Nadu and position the state as a hub for international sporting events.
The event is expected to attract prominent athletes, officials, and dignitaries, celebrating Tamil Nadu’s ongoing progress in the realm of sports.
Promoting Traditional Cuisine Through Health Initiatives
Earlier in the week, Tamil Nadu’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Ma. Subramanian inaugurated the ‘Run for Rice – Pazhaya Soru Marathon 2026’ at Besant Nagar Beach in Chennai. This awareness marathon aimed to highlight the nutritional and cultural significance of pazhaya soru, a traditional Tamil dish recognized for its health benefits.
According to Minister Subramanian, the marathon attracted over 1,000 participants, including doctors and medical college students, all united under the banner “Run for Health, Run for Tradition.” The event served to promote awareness about the health benefits of pazhaya soru, which has recently gained popularity as a breakfast option in various star hotels in Tamil Nadu and abroad.
“The marathon was organized to create widespread awareness about the greatness and health benefits of pazhaya soru. I hope this awareness reaches the general public at scale and contributes to healthier food choices rooted in Tamil Nadu’s traditional dietary wisdom,”
Subramanian stated during a press conference.
This initiative underscores the relevance of age-old food habits in fostering wellness and preventive healthcare in modern lifestyles, reflecting the Tamil Nadu government’s dedication to both sports and health.
