The Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board has approved several key initiatives during its 50th board meeting, including the installation of a Laser and Sound Show celebrating Baba Barfani. This cultural and spiritual showcase will take place in Srinagar and Jammu, highlighting the heritage of the Union Territory. The meeting, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, also included significant changes to insurance coverage for registered pilgrims.

On June 29, 2026, the Pratham Pooja for the upcoming Yatra will be performed, marking the beginning of the pilgrimage season. The formal start date will be announced later. One of the most notable decisions was the increase in accidental insurance coverage for yatris, service providers, officials, seasonal workers, and pujaris, rising from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh. This enhancement aims to provide greater safety and security for all participants.

The board also discussed various welfare measures for its employees, reflecting a commitment to improving working conditions. To further enhance facilities for pilgrims, the Lieutenant Governor directed the identification of sites for additional toilet infrastructure along pilgrimage routes. Plans for shelter sheds and rain covers are also underway, ensuring comfort for pilgrims, service providers, and security personnel.

In reviewing infrastructure and safety initiatives, the board assessed progress in several critical areas. This includes measures for pony insurance, expansion of online services, and improvements in disaster preparedness and medical facilities. The board is also working on better coordination for langar services and volunteer efforts, in addition to enhancing telecommunication and grid connectivity.

The Border Roads Organization reported substantial advancements in maintaining and widening the Yatra tracks, improving accessibility on both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. During the meeting, Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, presented a comprehensive overview of preparations for the upcoming Yatra.

The meeting included participation from various board members, such as Swami Avdheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj, Prof. Kailash Mehra Sadhu, and Shri K. K. Sharma, among others. The discussions reflect a proactive approach to ensuring a safe and enriching experience for all participants in the upcoming pilgrimage, set against the backdrop of the region’s vibrant spiritual heritage.
