Mumbai Becomes Classroom for 150 Tribal Students from Palghar
A transformative educational experience unfolded for 150 tribal students from the Arts, Commerce and Science College in Onde, located in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. Organised by the KAASH Foundation, the students embarked on a day-long educational tour in Mumbai. This initiative aimed to broaden their perspectives and introduce them to academic, cultural, and civic spaces that are often out of reach.
The journey began aboard the Flying Ranee Express, providing the students an opportunity to explore Mumbai beyond their textbooks. Their first stop was Girgaon Chowpatty, where the city’s coastline offered lessons in history, culture, and urban life. This experience set a positive tone for the day, focusing on learning through observation and interaction.
Engaging Workshops and Discussions
A significant highlight of the day was the students’ participation in the 20th National Workshop on “Inclusiveness” held at the Xavier Institute of Management and Research (XIMR). The workshop featured discussions on leadership, higher education, and career pathways, led by prominent academic leaders. Interactions with postgraduate students provided valuable insights into life beyond undergraduate studies, making the experience relatable and inspiring.
In the afternoon, the students attended the 21st International Symposium, titled “Tribal to Global: Connecting Communities and Creating Change,” at the National Gallery of Modern Art. This event offered exposure to international diplomats and senior Indian administrators, illustrating how local communities engage in global dialogues. Speakers at the symposium encouraged the students to pursue education, creativity, and responsible citizenship.
A Cultural Showcase and Lasting Impressions
The day also featured a cultural performance by the tribal students, which was warmly received by the audience. This moment allowed them to express pride in their identity and heritage. The tour concluded with a visit to the iconic Gateway of India, leaving the students with a lasting impression of Mumbai’s rich historical legacy.
Through initiatives like this, the KAASH Foundation continues its commitment to education, health, skill development, and self-reliance in the Vikramgad region. By providing exposure to new experiences, the foundation aims to inspire confidence and ambition among tribal youth, empowering them to envision a brighter future.
