Miss Universe Jamaica Dr. Gabrielle Henry Returns Home After Recovery
Dr. Gabrielle Henry, the reigning Miss Jamaica, has returned home under medical supervision after nearly a month in a Bangkok hospital. Her return comes after a serious fall during the preliminary round of the Miss Universe competition on November 19, 2023. The incident resulted in significant injuries, including an intracranial hemorrhage, a fracture, and facial lacerations.
Arriving at Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica, on December 7, Dr. Henry was accompanied by a full medical escort. Her flight from Thailand included a stopover in the United States, where her mother and sister joined her. Upon landing, Dr. Henry was taken from the aircraft in a wheelchair and subsequently transferred to a stretcher for transport to a private hospital in Jamaica.
Ongoing Medical Support
According to a report from Television Jamaica, Dr. Henry requires 24-hour specialized supervision as she continues her recovery. The Miss Universe Organization has been instrumental in supporting her throughout this ordeal, covering all medical expenses incurred in Thailand as well as the accommodation costs for her family members.
In a joint statement released on December 8, the Miss Universe Organization and Dr. Henry’s family confirmed that she is receiving specialized medical care and will be directly admitted to a hospital upon her return. The organization emphasized its commitment to ensuring her health and well-being during this challenging time.
Support from Family and the Community
Upon her return, Dr. Henry was greeted by her father, legal adviser Marc Ramsey, and national co-directors of the Miss Universe Jamaica Organization, Carl Williams and Mark McDermott. Despite the circumstances surrounding her return, she interacted graciously with those who gathered to welcome her, showcasing her resilience and strength.
Dr. Henry’s fall at the Miss Universe competition not only raised concerns regarding her health but also highlighted the importance of medical preparedness at such high-profile events. Her recovery process, while ongoing, has sparked conversations about safety measures within the pageant arena.
