Meghalaya Celebrates Eight Years of MDA Governance at Vision 2032 Event
The “Our Magnificent Meghalaya Vision 2032” programme celebrated the eighth anniversary of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government on March 6, 2026. The event took place at the P. A. Sangma Sports Complex in Tura and featured notable attendees, including Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, and Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Thomas A. Sangma. Other officials, ministers, and MLAs were also present to mark this significant milestone.
During his address, Chief Minister Sangma reflected on the journey of the MDA government since taking office in 2018. He acknowledged the various challenges faced along the way and expressed gratitude to the people of Meghalaya for their support. Sangma highlighted the state’s development, noting that it had received national recognition. He cited a congratulatory letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Meghalaya Day, which acknowledged the economic transformation occurring in the state.
Sangma emphasized that while infrastructure projects such as roads, schools, and government buildings are important, the true measure of development is the positive impact on citizens’ lives. He stated, “Development is not only about buildings or announcements. The most meaningful development is the one people can feel, when a life is saved in a hospital, when a child receives education, or when a farmer’s livelihood improves.”
The Chief Minister also underscored the necessity of unity among communities, urging citizens to resolve differences through dialogue. He asserted that harmony among tribes and communities is essential for the state’s progress.
In his remarks, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong described the event as a significant milestone, recalling that the MDA government began its journey on March 6, 2018. He announced that financial assistance worth approximately Rs 220 crore had been distributed to beneficiaries during the programme. “This amount goes directly to the people and reflects the government’s commitment to welfare and development,” Tynsong stated. He called on citizens and civil society organizations to support ongoing development initiatives.
Speaker Thomas A. Sangma praised the government’s achievements and congratulated Chief Minister Sangma for becoming the longest-serving Chief Minister in Meghalaya’s history. He expressed hope that both the government and the opposition would work together to realize the development vision outlined in Vision 2032.
Tourism and Agriculture Minister Timothy D. Shira also spoke at the event, highlighting the positive impacts of the government’s flagship programmes. He urged citizens to cooperate in building a developed and prosperous Meghalaya.
As the MDA government reflects on its past eight years, the Vision 2032 programme serves as a reminder of its commitment to enhancing the lives of Meghalaya’s citizens through continued development and community unity.
