Major Aman Dhar Honored with Sena Medal for Bravery in J&K

On November 9, 2024, Major Aman Dhar was awarded the Sena Medal for his exceptional bravery during a counter-terrorist operation in Sopore, located in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. Leading a Quick Reaction Team, Major Dhar displayed remarkable courage and decisive leadership while acting on credible intelligence regarding terrorist activity in the area.

During the operation, a terrorist took refuge in a nearby house, firing indiscriminately and threatening the lives of innocent civilians. Major Dhar swiftly established a cordon around the target area and, in a remarkable display of heroism, evacuated seven civilians, including four children, through a rear window of the house, ensuring their safety amidst the chaos.

In a further act of bravery, Major Dhar used a JCB machine to breach the terrorist’s hideout, engaging him in a fierce close-quarter battle. When the assailant attempted to escape by throwing a grenade and firing at the Major, Dhar maintained his composure and neutralized the threat in close combat. His actions not only saved lives but also exemplified the highest standards of duty and commitment.

For his outstanding gallantry and unwavering dedication, Major Dhar received the prestigious Sena Medal, which was conferred by the President of India and presented to him by the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Western Command. This honor reflects his indomitable spirit and commitment to protecting the lives of others.

Major Dhar was commissioned into the Corps of Signals on June 9, 2018, as a Technical Entry Scheme (TES) officer. He completed four years of rigorous training at the Cadets Training Wing in Mhow and is an alumnus of St Paul’s Senior Secondary School in Palampur. The son of Anil Sharma and Manju Sharma, Major Dhar’s bravery stands as a testament to the dedication and courage of those serving in the armed forces.

This recognition not only highlights Major Dhar’s individual accomplishments but also underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.
