Indian Army Commemorates Veterans’ Day with Awards and Tributes
The Indian Army marked Veterans’ Day with significant ceremonies led by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi in Jaipur. This day, dedicated to honoring the contributions of veterans and their families, featured a series of events aimed at celebrating their service and commitment. The celebrations took place across various military stations, including New Delhi, Amritsar, Lucknow, Ranchi, and Rajouri.
At the Jaipur Military Station, under the South Western Command, General Dwivedi presided over the commemorations. He conferred gallantry awards during a separate Investiture Ceremony, recognizing the bravery and dedication of soldiers and military units. The COAS also attended a special lunch at the Polo Ground, where he interacted with veterans and Veer Naris, acknowledging their crucial role in the nation’s security and the Army’s legacy.
In a release from the Ministry of Defence, it was stated that the COAS expressed heartfelt appreciation for the efforts of the Zila Sainik Boards, who have worked diligently to address the concerns of veterans. During the event, he also unveiled the ‘Samman’ magazine, published by the Directorate of Indian Army Veterans, which aims to support and engage the veteran community.
General Dwivedi delivered a poignant address, extending warm greetings to veterans and their families. He paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to prioritizing their welfare. He discussed the evolving nature of warfare and stressed the importance of modernization and operational readiness while maintaining core values such as honour, courage, and duty.
The COAS praised veterans as exemplary role models and urged them to continue engaging with the youth and broader community to foster national unity and resilience. He expressed gratitude to civil administration and other stakeholders for their support in enhancing veteran outreach and welfare initiatives.
At the Investiture Ceremony, General Dwivedi presented a total of 10 Sena Medals (Gallantry) and 49 COAS Unit Citations. Additionally, 60 units received COAS Certificates of Appreciation, including 26 units recognized for their participation in Operation Sindoor. These awards celebrate the courage and exemplary service of personnel dedicated to serving the nation.
Recognizing contributions beyond the battlefield, six veteran achievers and three civilians were also honored for their significant support of the Indian Army.
Looking ahead, celebrations will continue with the Army Day Parade scheduled for January 15, 2024, at Mahal Road in Jaipur. This event will be complemented by the Shaurya Sandhya at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, showcasing the Indian Army’s professionalism and operational preparedness, while reinforcing its close relationship with the Indian populace.
