India Dominates BOXAM Elite 2026 with Nine Gold Medals
India showcased an impressive display of boxing talent at the BOXAM Elite International 2026 held in La Nucia, Alicante, clinching a remarkable nine gold medals on the final day. Led by Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and former Youth World Champion Arundhati Choudhary, the Indian women’s boxing team made history by winning all seven finals they contested.
The women’s team set a strong foundation with dominating performances. Manju Rani (48kg) and Nitu (51kg) both achieved emphatic victories, each winning their bouts by a score of 5:0 against their Spanish rivals. In a gripping all-Indian final, Poonam (54kg) narrowly edged out Preeti. Priya (60kg) and Arundhati (70kg) both delivered commanding performances against Ukrainian opponents, finishing with 5:0 victories.
In her bout, Lovlina Borgohain demonstrated her skill and control, defeating England’s Mary-Kate Smith with a score of 4:1 in the 75kg category. The campaign was capped off by Naina, who secured the final gold for India with a convincing 4:1 win over Ukraine’s Raisa Piskun in the 80kg category.
Men’s Finals Show Strong Competition
The men’s finals also reflected India’s competitive spirit, with Sachin (60kg) narrowly defeating Canada’s Keoma-Ali Al Ahmadieh by a score of 3:2. Akash (75kg) followed suit, overcoming Kazakhstan’s Aman Konsbekov with a similar 3:2 victory. However, Deepak (70kg) and Ankush (80kg) both finished with silver medals after challenging matches against tough opponents from Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
Overall, India emerged as the most successful nation at the BOXAM Elite 2026, finishing with a total of nine gold medals, three silvers, and seven bronze medals. The exceptional performance not only highlights the depth of talent within the Indian boxing program but also sets a positive tone for future international competitions.
The President of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), Ajay Singh, commended the team’s efforts, stating that competing against strong international opposition will provide crucial exposure as they prepare for a challenging year ahead. Women’s head coach Santiago Nieva praised the discipline and confidence displayed by the boxers, emphasizing that winning all seven women’s finals is a testament to the strength of India’s boxing programme.
As the BOXAM Elite International 2026 concludes, Indian boxing stands poised for further achievements on the global stage, bolstered by the recent successes of its athletes.
