Dr. Rakesh Joshi Co-Edits Groundbreaking Book on Bladder Exstrophy

Dr. Rakesh Joshi, the medical superintendent of Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, recently co-edited the comprehensive volume titled “Bladder Exstrophy and Epispadias.” The book, published by Springer, aims to serve as a critical resource for medical professionals dealing with these complex conditions. Dr. Aseem Shukla from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in the United States shared the editorial responsibilities.

The publication is the culmination of an 18-year initiative stemming from the bladder exstrophy workshop, which has facilitated corrective surgeries for numerous children both in India and internationally. This condition, where the bladder develops outside the body, leads to significant challenges, including urine leakage.

Dr. Joshi emphasized the importance of the book in advancing understanding of bladder exstrophy, stating, “It will help experts worldwide to understand causes, treatment procedures, and the aftermath from nearly two decades of learning by the experts.”

International Collaboration and Impact

The book’s editorial team includes several notable international pediatric urologists serving as associate editors. This collaboration underscores the global effort to address and treat bladder exstrophy effectively.

In conjunction with the publication, this year’s surgical camp organized by Dr. Joshi and his team successfully performed 17 major and 4 minor surgeries aimed at correcting bladder exstrophy.
