Bihar Celebrates Solar Pioneers at Solar Mela 2026 Event
On March 16, 2026, the Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (PESU) recognized the achievements of twenty-four beneficiaries from Bihar who successfully eliminated their electricity bills through the adoption of rooftop solar energy systems. The event, known as Solar Mela 2026, served as a platform to highlight both individual and collective efforts towards sustainable energy solutions.
Honoring Contributors to Solar Energy
During the ceremony, PESU also honored the top ten vendors responsible for installing the highest number of rooftop solar systems. Additionally, five employees from the energy department who contributed to the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana were recognized for their outstanding work. This initiative aims to promote solar energy across India, making it accessible to the general public.
The fair was inaugurated by Manoj Kumar Singh, the energy secretary and chairman-cum-managing director of the Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited. In his opening remarks, Singh emphasized the various forms of national service, stating, “Some serve by wearing the uniform of the armed forces, while others contribute in different forms. Ordinary citizens can also serve the nation in their own way.”
Acknowledging the Global Challenge of Climate Change
Singh underscored the importance of addressing global warming, describing the solar initiative as a “historic step” towards combating pollution. He expressed gratitude to the beneficiaries, stating, “Your contribution to controlling pollution and promoting green energy demonstrates your dedication to the nation.”
One of the highlights of the initiative is that participants can access completely free electricity, a benefit made possible by the combined efforts of both the central and state governments. Singh encouraged banks to process applications within ten days, urging them not to request unnecessary documentation to facilitate the application process.
Dilip Kumar, general manager of PESU, noted that the mela is designed to assist citizens in selecting suitable vendors and technologies for their solar needs. This initiative not only supports individual households but also contributes to broader environmental goals, positioning Bihar as a leader in solar energy adoption.
The event reflects a growing recognition of the potential for renewable energy to transform lives and reduce dependency on traditional energy sources. As Bihar continues to advance its solar initiatives, the impact on both the economy and the environment is expected to be significant.
