On December 1, 2023, a remarkable event unfolded at Keshav Park in Kurukshetra, India, as part of the International Gita Mahotsav. A total of 21,000 children participated in a mass recitation of verses from the Bhagavad Gita, creating an inspiring atmosphere filled with spirituality and devotion. This significant gathering not only highlighted the timeless message of the Gita but also celebrated its growing global reach.

Haryana’s Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, attended the event and announced a special holiday for students who took part in the Global Gita Path. He expressed pride in the overwhelming participation, noting that the chanting resonated across various regions of India and beyond, embodying the Indian principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which translates to “the world is one family.”

During his address, Chief Minister Saini acknowledged the influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in elevating Gita Jayanti to a global celebration. He recalled how, during his visit to the United States in 2014, the Prime Minister presented the book “The Gita According to Gandhi” to then President Barack Obama. This gesture inspired the annual international observance of Gita Jayanti, which began in 2016 and has since attracted millions of participants from across the globe.

The Chief Minister emphasized the dual significance of reciting the Gita, asserting that it serves both a religious and scientific purpose. He explained that the positive sound waves generated by chanting can promote mental peace and instill moral values. Saini remarked, “The verses of the Gita not only guide individuals in their personal lives but also foster discipline and balance in society.”

The event also featured the presence of prominent figures such as yoga guru Baba Ramdev and Swami Gyananand Maharaj, who reinforced the Gita’s relevance in modern society. Baba Ramdev noted that the teachings of the Gita provide a pathway not only to personal development but also to national progress. He encouraged the youth to embrace its principles, suggesting that the Gita holds the key to making India a developed nation by 2047.

Swami Gyananand Maharaj praised the ongoing efforts to spread the teachings of the Gita, highlighting its ability to offer solutions to contemporary challenges. He reported that in addition to the 21,000 children at Keshav Park, over 1,00,800 students from 114 blocks in Haryana and millions of participants from more than 50 countries joined in the Global Gita Path.

The Chief Minister led a pledge, urging attendees to internalize the wisdom of the Gita and share it with others. He reiterated that each verse provides guidance and inspiration, asserting that the Gita’s teachings can help eliminate negativity and foster harmony in society.

As the event drew to a close, Saini reflected on the Gita’s message, stating that it remains a source of timeless wisdom, guiding humanity through the complexities of life. He encouraged all to adopt its lessons to cultivate peace and understanding in their communities.

The Global Gita Recitation not only celebrated the Gita’s teachings but also exemplified a collective commitment to fostering unity and spiritual growth among people of diverse backgrounds, marking a significant moment in the ongoing celebration of this ancient text.
