Karnataka Launches Probe Into Cancer Claims Linked to Eggs
Karnataka’s Health and Food Safety Department has initiated a statewide investigation following a viral video that claims eggs may contain cancer-causing elements. The department is collecting over 200 samples from various brands, including Eggoz, to verify these allegations and address growing public concern regarding egg safety in the state.
Investigation Underway
The Food Safety and Quality Department has acted promptly, launching a comprehensive sample collection initiative across Karnataka. Sources from the department indicate that samples have been gathered from multiple locations, with more than 50 samples collected in Bengaluru alone. These samples have been dispatched for laboratory analysis to establish the veracity of the claims circulating on social media.
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao addressed the situation, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations made in the viral video. The video specifically cautioned consumers against purchasing eggs from the Eggoz brand. Minister Rao stated, “I have instructed my department officials to thoroughly examine the matter and gain a clear understanding of the situation. Samples have already been collected and sent for testing. I will share detailed information once the test reports are available. For now, there is no need for the public to panic.”
Previous Quality Checks and Public Reassurance
In an effort to reassure consumers, Minister Rao referenced previous egg quality assessments conducted by the department. “Earlier, we tested 124 egg samples. Of these, 123 met quality standards, and only one sample was found to be substandard,” he noted. Despite these positive past results, the department is intensifying surveillance in light of the recent concerns prompted by the viral claims.
The minister confirmed that samples from the Eggoz company, specifically mentioned in the viral video, have also been included in the testing process. All collected samples are currently undergoing laboratory testing, and the department expects to issue an official statement once the results are available.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while waiting for verified information. Minister Rao reiterated that the government is committed to maintaining food safety standards and will take strict action against any violations detected during the investigation.
