Doctors at Chamiana Hospital Successfully Treat Rare Heart Condition

The Department of Cardiology at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties in Chamiana, located in the Shimla district, has successfully treated a rare case of pulmonary artery aneurysm. This complex cardiovascular condition involves a weakening of the walls of blood vessels, causing a pouch-like projection.

A 58-year-old woman from Chamba district presented at the hospital with chronic cough, shortness of breath, and chest pain. Upon examination, doctors diagnosed her with a large pulmonary artery aneurysm measuring 5×5 cm on the right side, which posed an imminent risk of rupture.

Instead of opting for traditional surgical intervention, the patient chose a less invasive approach. The medical team, led by Dr. Arvind Kandoria, a professor in the Department of Cardiology, undertook the procedure using a technique known as coil embolization. This method involves placing coils within the aneurysm to promote clotting and ultimately prevent rupture.
