Chhattisgarh’s Sanjay Dahariya Triumphs in UPSC Exam After Cancer Battle
A remarkable achievement has emerged from Chhattisgarh, where **Sanjay Dahariya** has secured the **946th rank** in the **UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025** after overcoming a six-year battle with cancer. This marks Dahariya’s third attempt at the prestigious exam, and his success has brought immense pride not only to his family but also to the residents of his village in **Mahasamund district**.
Dahariya’s journey is one of resilience and determination. He began his education at a local government school before being selected for the **Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya** in **Mana (Raipur)**, where his academic potential was nurtured. His aspirations of joining the civil services faced significant challenges after he resigned from three jobs, including a position at the **State Bank of India** in **West Bengal**, to pursue higher goals.
In **2012**, Dahariya was diagnosed with cancer affecting his salivary glands. The subsequent six years were marked by extensive treatment, yet he remained steadfast in his pursuit of civil service. Even while dealing with a minor vision impairment, Dahariya managed to keep his career on track, taking positions at a bank in **Raipur** and the **Mahasamund Post Office**.
Dahariya commenced his attempts at the UPSC Civil Services Examination in **2022**, dedicating himself fully to his goal. His perseverance paid off as he achieved his desired rank in **2025**. Reflecting on his journey, Dahariya stated, “I hope to serve the country through the civil services. Whether I secure an IAS cadre or another service, my commitment to public service remains firm.”
His achievement has drawn praise from local officials, including **Mahasamund Collector Vinay Kumar Langeh** and **District Education Officer Vijay Kumar Lahare**, who recognized his success as a testament to courage and perseverance. Their commendations highlight the impact of Dahariya’s story, inspiring others to face their challenges with similar resolve.
Dahariya’s success not only exemplifies the triumph of the human spirit over adversity but also underscores the importance of support from family and mentors during difficult times. His journey serves as a beacon of hope for many aspiring civil servants across the nation.
