BJP MP K Laxman Calls for Standardized Medical Billing Practices

K Laxman, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has raised significant concerns regarding the medical billing practices prevalent in private hospitals across India. Reports from patients, civil society, and consumer bodies point to a disturbing pattern of unnecessary diagnostic tests, unwanted prolonged hospital stays with no clinical justification, and opaque billing processes.”

Laxman pointed out that some hospitals charge between INR 1,500 to 2,000 for outpatient department (OPD) services, which often are not included under government health initiatives like Ayushman Bharat.
