Autorickshaw Driver Killed in Head-On Collision in Pune

A tragic accident occurred on the morning of March 5, 2024, when an autorickshaw driver lost his life in a head-on collision with another three-wheeler in Ghotawade, a locality in Mulshi taluka. The deceased was identified as B V Shelke, aged 34, from Shelarmala in Mulshi.

The incident unfolded around 07:00 when B V Shelke was driving towards Maan while the other vehicle, operated by Ajay Matere, was heading towards Pirangut. According to officials from the Pune Rural Police, the two vehicles collided near Shelkewadi, resulting in the immediate death of Shelke at the scene.

Ajay Matere and his passenger, Mahesh Matere, both residents of Materewadi near Ghotawade, sustained injuries during the accident. They were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Police investigations suggest that low visibility due to morning haze and ongoing road repair work may have contributed to the collision. An officer from the Pune Rural Police stated, “These factors could be the reasons behind the tragic accident.”

The community is left mourning the loss of B V Shelke, whose life was cut short under such tragic circumstances. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the precise causes of the collision and to ensure road safety measures are reinforced in the area.
