Andhra Pradesh Authorities Confirm No ‘Almont-Kid’ Syrup Sales
The State Drug Control Administration (DCA) of Andhra Pradesh has confirmed that the children’s cold relief medicine, Almont-Kid syrup, has neither been supplied nor sold within the state. This announcement follows laboratory tests conducted in Kolkata, which indicated that batch number AL-24002 of the syrup, manufactured by Tridus Remedies of Bihar, contained levels of ethylene glycol exceeding permissible limits.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the DCA detailed the findings that prompted immediate action. The presence of ethylene glycol, a toxic compound, raised significant health concerns, particularly for the pediatric population. As a precautionary measure, the DCA initiated inspections throughout Andhra Pradesh to ensure that no contaminated products were available to consumers.
The initial inspections revealed that the Almont-Kid syrup had not been imported into the state, nor had it been sold in private medical stores. According to DCA officials, there have been no recorded sales of the implicated batch in any private pharmacies to date. The DCA is continuing its inspections and is rigorously examining billing records to eliminate any possibility of the syrup circulating in the market.
Ethylene glycol is known for its harmful effects, particularly in children, leading to serious health issues if ingested. The DCA’s proactive measures reflect a commitment to public safety and the health of children across the state.
As investigations progress, the DCA urges parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report any concerns related to children’s medications. The administration emphasizes its dedication to ensuring only safe and approved medications are available to the public.
