Priyadarshan to Direct Bhoot Police 2, Cast Changes Announced
Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan is set to take the helm of the sequel to the 2021 horror-comedy Bhoot Police, introducing notable changes to both the cast and production style. According to reports from entertainment portal Pinkvilla, Priyadarshan has been secured for the project with a substantial fee of Rs 21 crores, reflecting the producers’ confidence in his creative direction for the franchise.
While Bhoot Police 2 aims to retain the humorous and supernatural essence that characterized the original film, it will not feature the original leads, Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor. An insider revealed that the sequel will undergo a complete casting refresh. “The idea is to reinvent the franchise with a new duo. The makers are looking at two actors — one senior and one junior — to create an interesting combo,” the source stated. The film promises to remain a proper horror-comedy while embracing a more theatrical treatment.
Franchise Evolution and New Directions
The first installment of Bhoot Police, directed by Pavan Kirpalani, included a star-studded cast featuring Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam. The film found its audience on various OTT platforms after its release in 2021, thanks to its light-hearted approach to ghost-hunting.
Priyadarshan, celebrated for his work on iconic films such as Hera Pheri, Hungama, and Hulchul, is currently balancing multiple projects. He is also working on Bhooth Bangla, which features Akshay Kumar and is scheduled for release in 2026, marking a significant reunion after more than a decade. Additionally, the director is involved in another project titled Haiwaan, also slated for a 2026 release.
The shift in leadership and direction for Bhoot Police 2 signifies a strategic move to rejuvenate the franchise, aiming to attract a fresh audience while maintaining the core elements that made the first film a success. As production progresses, anticipation builds around how this new vision will unfold on screen.
