In a candid moment, Johar stated, “You feel the loneliest in your highs and not your lows. In your lows, you have your family, friends, parents, and kids. But in your highs, what do you do?” This sentiment resonated deeply as he described receiving the news of his award. After the call informing him of the accolade, he grappled with a sense of isolation, pondering, “What do I do tonight? Whose house do I go to? Whose hand do I hold?”

Johar’s experience at the awards ceremony highlighted his solitude. “When I went to the awards, they asked me who my plus one was, and I had no one,” he revealed. With his mother unable to travel due to health issues and his children still too young, he felt the weight of the moment. “It hits you hard,” he added.

The director admitted to often feeling lonely, particularly during quiet moments like dining alone. “On many nights when I am eating alone, I don’t go to my dining table. I eat in my room so I can dilute the loneliness,” he explained. Despite these challenges, Johar remains optimistic about the future. He quipped, “But they say never say never, and when it happens, I am standing with my arms wide open like Shah Rukh Khan.”

The National Award Johar won this year was in the category of Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
