Residents of Seydunganallur have taken a significant step toward improving public transportation by submitting a petition demanding the construction of a bus stand at a more accessible location. The petition was presented during a weekly grievance redressal meeting led by Collector K. Elambahavath on Monday.

The request, supported by local communities including the Mohideen Andavar Jamiya Mosque Jamath and Al-Masjidhil Noor Sunnath Jamath, emphasizes the need for a bus stand situated on the Seydunganallur-Tiruchendur road, close to the mosque. This location would benefit residents traveling to key areas such as Seydunganallur railway station, Vittilapuram, and Kovilpatti.

Advocating for this proposal, M.C. Shunmugaiah, the local MLA, has already allocated ₹7 lakh for the project under the Local Area Development Scheme. Despite this support, the community has expressed concerns regarding the initial plans by panchayat union officials to construct the bus stand in a remote area devoid of public traffic.

As work commenced at this unsuitable site, local opposition grew. Residents voiced their discontent, leading to a halt in construction. Petitioners argue that placing the bus stand near the mosque is the most practical solution for enhancing public transportation access.

In a related matter, P. Kumaravel, president of the Eppodhumvendran Tank Users Association, raised additional concerns regarding the lack of maintenance for the Eppodhumvendran tank and its associated water bodies. This neglect has adversely affected agricultural land and residential areas. Kumaravel urged the district administration to take necessary actions to address these issues.

Moreover, the association has sought permission to organize a tractor rally from the Eppodhumvendran tank to the Collectorate on January 30, highlighting the urgency of their requests for infrastructure improvements.

As discussions continue, the residents of Seydunganallur remain hopeful that their voices will lead to a more convenient bus stand location and prompt attention to local water management issues.
