Mundian Advocates for Tech-Driven Growth in Tool Manufacturing
Punjab’s Minister for Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management, Hardeep Singh Mundian, emphasized the essential role of technology in enhancing productivity and efficiency in the tool manufacturing sector during the “Hand and Machine Tools, Power Tools” session at the Progressive Punjab Investors Summit on March 14, 2026. The event took place at Plaksha University, bringing together industry leaders and experts to discuss the future of manufacturing in the state.
Mundian acknowledged the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for steering industrial development in Punjab. He praised the summit as a valuable platform for dialogue among stakeholders in the manufacturing sector. He highlighted that the hand tools, machine tools, and power tools sector is crucial to India’s manufacturing economy, particularly supporting key industries such as automotive, construction, and infrastructure.
Punjab holds a significant position in the national landscape, contributing nearly 80 percent of India’s hand tools exports. The industrial clusters in Jalandhar and Ludhiana are home to approximately 1,200 industrial units, which bolster the state’s manufacturing capabilities. Mundian noted that Punjab’s strengths in forging, machining, heat treatment, and precision engineering, complemented by the steel cluster in Mandi Gobindgarh, provide a robust foundation for the sector’s growth.
In his address, Mundian stressed the importance of adopting advanced technologies, such as automation, CNC machining, and digital monitoring, alongside embracing Industry 4.0 solutions. He expressed confidence that the Punjab Government’s supportive policies would facilitate technological upgrades, allowing local industries to compete effectively in global markets while creating substantial employment opportunities for the youth.
Collaboration and Innovation in Manufacturing
Mr. Moneesh Kumar, Director of Technical Education and Industrial Training, underscored the need for collaboration between industry and academia. He emphasized the importance of skill-based training, internships, and the introduction of modern machinery, including robotics and CNC systems, in technical institutions to enhance employability among graduates.
Industry representatives, including Mr. Ashwani Kumar, Mr. Binny Gupta, and Mr. Major Singh, shared insights on various strategies to improve manufacturing efficiency. They discussed innovation, cost optimization, the adoption of renewable energy, quality assurance, and reducing production waste as critical factors for enhancing overall productivity in the sector.
The discussions at the summit reflect a collective commitment to positioning Punjab as a leading global hub in tool manufacturing. The emphasis on technology-driven growth is expected to strengthen the state’s industrial ecosystem and provide a brighter future for its workforce.
