Jaishankar Launches Six-Day Diplomatic Tour in France and Luxembourg
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar commenced a six-day diplomatic visit to France and Luxembourg on March 10, 2024. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and address global issues of mutual interest. In Paris, he is scheduled to meet with key French officials, including Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barrot, to discuss advancements in the India-France strategic partnership.
This visit occurs in the context of rising international tensions following a military operation by the United States that led to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. These developments are expected to be a point of discussion during Jaishankar’s meetings, as both nations consider their positions on global security matters.
Jaishankar and Barrot will also prepare for the impending visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to India next month, where he is set to participate in the AI Summit. This summit, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi co-chaired with Macron in February 2024 in Paris, signifies the growing collaboration between the two nations in the field of artificial intelligence.
Engagements in Paris and Luxembourg
In addition to his meetings with French officials, Jaishankar will address the 31st edition of the French Ambassadors’ Conference. This platform will allow him to articulate India’s perspectives on various international challenges and reinforce the country’s diplomatic engagement.
Following his time in France, Jaishankar will travel to Luxembourg, where he will meet with Xavier Bettel, the Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. Their discussions are anticipated to revolve around enhancing bilateral ties and exploring avenues for cooperation across various sectors.
During his visit to Luxembourg, Jaishankar will also connect with members of the Indian community, further emphasizing India’s commitment to its diaspora abroad. This interaction aims to strengthen cultural and social ties, fostering a sense of unity among Indians living in Europe.
As S. Jaishankar embarks on this diplomatic journey, the outcomes of his discussions are expected to play a vital role in shaping future collaborations between India, France, and Luxembourg. The focus on strategic partnerships and global cooperation reflects India’s proactive approach to international diplomacy in an increasingly complex world.
