IndiGo Resumes Full Operations with Over 2,050 Flights Daily
IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has returned to near-normal operations after a significant period of disruption. On December 12, 2023, the airline successfully operated over 2,050 flights, marking a substantial recovery in its service capacity. IndiGo is expected to maintain a similar operational level as it continues to connect all 138 destinations in its network.
The airline’s operational performance has shown steady improvement over the past week. On December 8, IndiGo managed to operate more than 1,700 flights with just one cancellation. This figure rose to over 1,800 flights on December 9 and exceeded 1,900 flights on December 10, with two cancellations reported. By December 11, the airline conducted over 1,950 flights, experiencing four cancellations before surpassing the 2,050 flights mark on December 12 with only two cancellations noted.
Compensation and Assurance for Passengers
In response to the disruptions, IndiGo has announced plans to compensate affected passengers with an estimated ₹500 crore for last-minute flight cancellations occurring within 24 hours of departure. Additionally, the airline is identifying flights where passengers were stranded between December 3 and 5 due to operational issues. Those affected will receive ₹10,000 travel vouchers, valid for 12 months, alongside the mandatory compensation of ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 in accordance with government regulations.
An IndiGo spokesperson emphasized the importance of relying on official updates, urging passengers to disregard misinformation regarding mass cancellations. The spokesperson stated, “We continue to uphold the integrity of our revised flight schedule and strongly urge our passengers not to be misled by any false information about mass cancellations across our network.”
IndiGo is also collaborating with airport partners to ensure that new flight schedules are prominently displayed on terminal screens. This initiative aims to minimize confusion and provide clarity to travelers navigating the airline’s revised operations.
Future Outlook and Passenger Support
Looking ahead, IndiGo has committed to implementing a structured compensation program starting in January 2026. The airline reported that most refunds have already been processed, with remaining payments to be credited shortly. This proactive approach underscores IndiGo’s commitment to supporting its passengers during this recovery phase.
As IndiGo continues to stabilize its operations, the airline remains focused on enhancing customer experience and ensuring reliable service across its extensive network. With this renewed operational capacity, IndiGo aims to rebuild trust and confidence among its passengers as it moves forward.
