India Welcomes Three New Airlines as Aviation Market Expands
India’s aviation sector is poised for significant growth following the recent approval of three new airlines. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to Shankh Air, Al Hind Air, and FlyExpress, formally allowing them to enter the domestic aviation market.
In a meeting with representatives from the new airlines, Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu highlighted the impact of these additions on the industry. Based in Uttar Pradesh, Shankh Air, operated by Shankh Aviation, is expected to commence operations in 2026. The airline plans to expand its fleet to approximately 20 to 25 aircraft within the next two to three years.
The issuance of NOCs to Al Hind Air and FlyExpress this week represents a pivotal moment for India’s aviation landscape. Currently, the country has nine scheduled domestic airlines, with IndiGo and the Air India Group controlling over 90 percent of the market. The introduction of these new carriers is anticipated to enhance competition and increase capacity, ultimately providing consumers with more choices.
As the sector evolves, the entry of new players like Shankh Air, Al Hind Air, and FlyExpress reflects India’s growing demand for air travel. The government’s support for these initiatives may lead to a more diversified and competitive aviation environment, benefiting both consumers and the economy.
