Hyatt Hotels Corporation is set to expand its footprint in India by establishing a new 150-room hotel in Sikkim. The announcement was made as Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang virtually laid the foundation stone for the property on March 1, 2025. This new hotel will be located in Gangtok at Mintokgang, approximately two kilometers from MG Marg, along the route to Tsomgo Lake.

The Himalayan state of Sikkim has recently experienced a surge in tourism, welcoming over 1.7 million visitors in 2025, including more than 71,000 international tourists. Despite an overall accommodation capacity ranging between 42,000 and 45,000 tourists per day, there is a noted lack of premium lodging options in central Gangtok, making the Hyatt Regency Gangtok a timely addition.

The new hotel will feature a variety of amenities, including multiple dining outlets, a spa, a swimming pool, and fitness facilities. Additionally, it will offer nearly 13,000 square feet of meeting and event space, emphasizing a focus on MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. Plans also include a licensed casino facility as part of the broader development.

While the total investment for the project has not been disclosed, Chief Minister Tamang highlighted the significance of this initiative. He remarked that the development reflects a growing investor confidence in Sikkim, which is recognized for its peaceful environment, progressive governance, and potential as a premier destination in the Eastern Himalayas.

Tamang expressed his congratulations to the SM Group, the Poddar Group, and Hyatt for their partnership in this endeavor. He emphasized that the introduction of a globally recognized hospitality brand like Hyatt would enhance Sikkim’s international visibility and attract high-quality tourism. Furthermore, the project is expected to create meaningful employment and skill-development opportunities for local youth.

The Chief Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to sustainable and responsible development, aiming to protect the fragile Himalayan ecosystem while promoting growth in the tourism sector. As Sikkim continues to evolve as a prominent destination, the arrival of Hyatt marks a significant milestone in the region’s hospitality landscape.
