Haryana Budget to Prioritize Farmers’ Income and Urban Development
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that the upcoming budget for the Indian state of Haryana will place a significant emphasis on enhancing the income of farmers and supporting the agriculture sector. This statement was made during a pre-budget meeting at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, where he engaged with agricultural scientists, progressive farmers, and representatives from various sectors, including animal husbandry, horticulture, and fisheries.
During the meeting, Saini highlighted the importance of adopting modern farming technologies. He urged agricultural scientists to concentrate on innovations that can lower input costs and simultaneously increase profitability for farmers. “The government is framing policies with farmers’ needs and challenges at the core, and agriculture will continue to receive the highest priority in the budget,” he stated.
Reflecting on a previous pre-budget consultation held on January 9, 2025, the Chief Minister noted that 161 suggestions were received from farmers and experts. Of these, 99 were successfully incorporated into the budget. He mentioned the government’s efforts to legislate against the sale of spurious seeds, alongside the development of a special agriculture and horticulture action plan for the Morni region. Additionally, initiatives to promote natural farming have been strengthened, and financial support under the Mera Pani-Meri Virasat scheme has been increased to encourage water conservation and crop diversification.
Engaging Local Communities for Input
Following this, Saini chaired another pre-budget meeting at the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology with representatives from panchayats and urban local bodies. He emphasized that the forthcoming budget would reflect the hopes, needs, and suggestions of Haryana’s approximately 2.80 crore citizens. “Panchayat representatives, members of urban local bodies, and citizens can submit their suggestions over the next 10 days,” he added.
The Chief Minister underscored the vital role of urban local bodies in the context of rapid urbanization and changing lifestyles. As cities are seen as engines of development, he pointed out that local bodies have become increasingly important in meeting the rising expectations of citizens. For the 2025-26 budget, a provision of Rs 5,666.28 crore has been allocated for local bodies, signifying the government’s commitment to urban development.
With these initiatives, the Haryana government aims to bolster both agricultural productivity and urban infrastructure, ensuring that the needs of all citizens are addressed in the upcoming budget.
