Equity mutual funds experienced a significant rebound in November, attracting inflows totaling Rs 29,911 crore, marking a 21% increase compared to October. This revitalization follows three months of declining investment, as reported by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi). The rise in inflows is indicative of renewed investor confidence in the market.

As a result of these inflows, the overall mutual fund industry saw its total Assets Under Management (AUM) grow to Rs 80.80 lakh crore, up from Rs 79.87 lakh crore in the previous month. Despite this positive trend, retail participation through Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) experienced a slight decline. Contributions from SIPs decreased to Rs 29,445 crore, down from Rs 29,631 crore in October.

Equity Fund Trends and Sub-category Performance

The data released by Amfi highlighted a consistent recovery in equity fund inflows over recent months:

– August: Rs 33,430 crore
– September: Rs 30,421 crore
– October: Rs 24,690 crore
– November: Rs 29,911 crore

Most equity sub-categories showed positive traction during this period, except for dividend yield and Equity Linked Savings Scheme (ELSS) funds. Flexi-cap funds continued to lead in popularity, drawing Rs 8,135 crore in November, although this was a slight decrease from October’s Rs 8,929 crore.

In contrast, debt mutual funds faced a sharp reversal, recording outflows of Rs 25,692 crore in November. This followed a substantial influx of Rs 1.6 lakh crore the previous month, indicating a notable shift in investor sentiment.

Gold Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) also encountered a slowdown, with net inflows dropping to Rs 3,742 crore, down from Rs 7,743 crore in October. This trend suggests a reduced appetite for safe-haven assets as market conditions became more favorable.

Overall, the November performance of equity mutual funds not only reflects a recovery in investor sentiment but also highlights the dynamic nature of the financial markets in response to changing economic conditions.
