Central Railway to Implement Mega Block on January 11
Central Railway has announced a significant mega block on its Main and Trans-Harbour lines on January 11, 2025. This operation aims to conduct essential engineering and maintenance works, which will impact several local train services in Mumbai. According to an official statement, the block will lead to diversions, suspensions, and cancellations of multiple trains during the specified timeframe.
Details of the Mega Block on Main Line
The block will affect the UP and Down slow lines between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai, and Vidyavihar. The suspension will occur from 10:55 AM to 3:55 PM. During this period, Down slow services departing CSMT between 10:48 AM and 3:45 PM will be rerouted onto the Down fast line. These trains will stop at key stations including Byculla, Parel, Dadar, Matunga, Sion, and Kurla before returning to the Down slow line at Vidyavihar.
Conversely, UP slow services leaving Ghatkopar between 10:19 AM and 3:52 PM will be diverted to the UP fast line. These trains will also halt at major stations such as Kurla, Sion, Matunga, Dadar, Parel, and Byculla.
Impact on Trans-Harbour Line Services
On the Trans-Harbour Line, both UP and Down services between Thane and Vashi/Nerul will be suspended from 11:10 AM to 4:10 PM. Several trains will be cancelled during this block, including:
– Down line services to Vashi, Nerul, and Panvel departing Thane between 10:35 AM and 4:07 PM.
– UP line services to Thane leaving Panvel, Nerul, and Vashi between 10:25 AM and 4:09 PM.
Central Railway has advised passengers to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate during the mega block. This initiative is crucial for maintaining the safety and reliability of suburban train services in the region.
In a separate report, Central Railway has highlighted a significant increase in revenue from its parcel services over the past year. For the financial year 2025-26, the railway zone has earned Rs. 183.80 crore from parcel and luggage services, marking a growth of over 37 percent compared to the previous year.
During this period, Central Railway operated 143 trips of time-tabled parcel trains, contributing to enhanced parcel movement across the zone. The Mumbai Division has emerged as a leading contributor, generating Rs. 136.20 crore in revenue, which represents a growth of over 43 percent from the previous financial year.
Other divisions recorded steady contributions, with the Bhusaval Division showing the highest percentage increase in parcel revenue, rising by 93 percent from Rs. 8.90 crore to Rs. 17.20 crore in the current financial year.
Overall, these developments reflect Central Railway’s commitment to improving services while ensuring operational efficiency and safety.
