Nayab Singh Saini, the Chief Minister of Haryana, inaugurated the Rabi Agriculture Fair in Hisar on September 21, 2023. During the event, he urged farmers to embrace agricultural diversification and focus on the production of coarse grains. Saini emphasized the Haryana government’s commitment to supporting farmers through sustainable practices and initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural profitability.

In his address to attendees, Saini highlighted the potential for farmers to increase their income by engaging in various agricultural activities. He encouraged the cultivation of medicinal plants, beekeeping, mushroom production, and the farming of vegetables, flowers, and fruits. The Chief Minister reassured farmers of the government’s ongoing support, stating that they would continue to provide necessary facilities and incentives to help them succeed.

New Initiatives and Support for Farmers

As part of the fair, Saini launched the ‘Har Ghar Chhaon Har Ghar Phal’ scheme, which aims to distribute 55,000 fruit saplings free of charge across 110 villages in 22 districts. This initiative is designed to promote fruit cultivation and enhance food security in rural areas. Farmers present at the fair received saplings to kickstart their participation in the program.

Additionally, Saini presented dummy cheques of up to Rs 40,000 to 50 cattle rearers as part of the Conservation and Development of Indigenous Cows and Murrah Development scheme. This financial support is intended to assist in the development of local livestock breeds, fostering sustainable farming practices.

The Chief Minister also recognized women entrepreneurs by issuing dairy establishment approval letters to 75 women, further promoting gender inclusivity in agriculture. He inaugurated the newly established Dattopant Thengadi Agricultural Entrepreneurship Centre on the university campus, which aims to support agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship.

Infrastructure Developments to Support Education

In addition to the agricultural initiatives, Saini officially opened the Kalpana Chawla Women’s Hostel and the Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Women’s Hostel. These facilities are expected to provide safe and supportive living environments for female students pursuing agricultural studies at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University.

The Rabi Agriculture Fair not only serves as a platform for promoting agricultural advancements but also reflects the Haryana government’s broader strategy to enhance rural livelihoods and foster sustainable agricultural practices. Through these initiatives, the state aims to empower farmers and create a more resilient agricultural sector.
