Delhi Government Launches Veer Gatha 5.0 Competition for Schools

The Delhi government has mandated that all schools in the region organise the Veer Gatha 5.0 competition by September 20, 2023. This initiative aims to foster patriotism and civic consciousness among students by sharing the inspiring stories of gallantry award winners. The competition is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defence, as outlined in a circular released by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
Schools encompassing a wide range of institutions, including those overseen by the Directorate of Education (DoE), the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), aided schools, the Delhi Cantonment Board (DCB), and private entities, are required to participate. The competition encourages students to engage in projects and activities that highlight the valor of gallantry award recipients.
Recognition and Project Guidelines
The circular specifies that outstanding entries will receive national recognition and be celebrated during the Republic Day festivities in 2026. Schools must upload their best submissions to the MyGov portal, adhering to the provided guidelines. As part of the initiative, each school is instructed to establish a dedicated “Veer Gatha Corner.” This area will focus on gallantry awardees, military traditions, and significant historical conflicts involving great warriors, soldiers, and rulers.
In addition to the project’s educational components, schools are encouraged to share photographs of their Veer Gatha Corners on the social media platform X, tagging the Defence Minister and the Chief Minister of Delhi. This social media engagement aims to highlight the importance of the initiative and increase community awareness.
Coordination and Implementation
To facilitate the smooth execution of the Veer Gatha 5.0 competition, schools are required to appoint nodal officers at state, district, and institutional levels. These officers will handle coordination and ensure adherence to the guidelines. Details regarding each officer, including their name, designation, mobile number, and email address, must be submitted to the Ministry of Education by September 5.
With examination schedules in view, the competition is designed to take place before the exams, allowing students to fully engage in the activities without academic pressures. The emphasis on storytelling and the sharing of heroic narratives aims to inspire students and deepen their understanding of national pride and civic duty.
The Veer Gatha 5.0 competition is part of a broader initiative by the Delhi government to cultivate a sense of patriotism and civic responsibility among young people. By encouraging students to learn about and appreciate the sacrifices made by gallantry award winners, the program seeks to instil values of bravery and service that resonate throughout the community.
