Denver Broncos Unveil $4 Billion Stadium Plan for Burnham Yard

The Denver Broncos have officially announced plans to construct a new stadium in Burnham Yard, central Denver. The project, which is expected to cost approximately $4 billion, will be entirely privately funded and is set to open in 2031. The announcement was made on Tuesday by team owners Greg Penner and Carrie Walton Penner, alongside Denver Mayor Mike Johnson and Colorado Governor Jared Polis.
In a joint statement, the owners expressed their enthusiasm for the chosen site, referring to Burnham Yard as “a transformational opportunity to reimagine the future with deep respect for the rich history of the area.” This new stadium will feature a retractable roof and will serve as the centerpiece of a dynamic mixed-use district.
Reasons for Choosing Burnham Yard
The decision to select Burnham Yard was driven by its historical significance and potential for future development. The Broncos currently play at Empower Field at Mile High, which was built to replace the original Mile High Stadium. Other locations, such as Lone Tree and Douglas County, were considered during the planning process but ultimately rejected in favor of the central Denver site.
The Broncos’ ownership emphasized that the construction of the new stadium would not result in any new taxes for local residents. This commitment to private funding aims to alleviate some of the financial burden typically associated with large public infrastructure projects.
Timeline and Future Plans
The Broncos’ announcement highlighted that while the stadium’s planning is an exciting milestone, there is still significant work ahead. The team aims for a targeted completion before the 2031 NFL season. The statement acknowledged that this moment represents a crucial checkpoint, reflecting years of research, collaboration, and necessary feasibility studies.
As Denver prepares for this ambitious project, the Broncos look to create a state-of-the-art facility that not only enhances the fan experience but also contributes to the revitalization of the surrounding area. The new stadium is poised to become a cornerstone of Denver’s sports and entertainment landscape, promising to attract visitors and boost the local economy. The Broncos organization remains focused on ensuring that the development aligns with the community’s interests and values.
