Two educators from Arunachal Pradesh have been awarded the prestigious National Teachers’ Award for their outstanding contributions to education and society. Chief Minister Pema Khandu publicly praised both recipients on September 5, coinciding with the celebration of Teachers’ Day.

Recognition of Academic Excellence

Dr Proshanto Kumar Saha, a faculty member of Psychology at Rajiv Gandhi University, received accolades for his remarkable academic accomplishments and dedication to social causes. Over the past 14 years, Dr Saha has inspired countless students through his expertise in forensic and neuropsychology. He has also established vital institutions, such as the Neuropsychology Lab, and has provided support to victims of child abuse. In a statement on social media, Khandu commended Dr Saha, stating, “His recognition is truly well-deserved, reflecting both academic brilliance and a deep commitment to society.”

The impact of Dr Saha’s work extends well beyond the classroom, showcasing how dedicated educators can effect positive change in their communities.

Transformational Leadership in Education

Equally noteworthy is the achievement of Nang Ekthani Mounglang, Headmistress of Pachin Government Secondary School, located near Itanagar. Just two years ago, the school faced significant challenges, with a pass percentage of only 27%. Under Mounglang’s leadership, substantial reforms were implemented, including the introduction of ICT classrooms and an emphasis on co-curricular activities. The efforts to engage the community proved successful, resulting in an impressive 81% pass rate in 2024 and a historic 100% pass rate this year, making it the first government school in the state capital to achieve such a feat.

In his statement, Chief Minister Khandu highlighted the transformative power of Mounglang’s leadership: “Her extraordinary leadership has now been recognised with her being conferred the National Teachers’ Award, on Teachers’ Day. Congratulations, Ms Mounglang! Your work shows how one teacher’s vision can transform not just a school, but an entire community.”

The awards ceremony took place in New Delhi, where the President of India presented honors to a total of 75 teachers from across the country, as recognized by the Ministry of Education. These awards celebrate the invaluable contributions teachers make in shaping young minds and fostering a brighter future.

The recognition of Dr Saha and Ms Mounglang not only highlights their individual achievements but also underscores the vital role of educators in driving social change and improving educational standards across India.
