Rolls-Royce Celebrates Phantom’s 100th with Poolside Stunt

Rolls-Royce has launched its celebrations for the Phantom’s 100th anniversary with a striking stunt at the historic Tinside Lido in Plymouth, England. In a dramatic display, a Phantom was carefully lowered into the swimming pool, evoking memories of The Who‘s drummer Keith Moon, who was famously rumored to have driven a Rolls-Royce into a hotel pool in the 1970s.
To ensure the vehicle’s safety, Rolls-Royce employed a crane and a specially constructed platform. This innovative approach allowed the luxury car to be showcased without any risk of damage, creating a visually stunning scene at the Art Deco lido.
The event not only celebrated the iconic vehicle but also paid homage to its cultural significance. The Phantom has long been associated with prominent music artists, including legends like Elvis Presley, John Lennon, and Elton John. In remarks reflecting on the car’s legacy, Rolls-Royce CEO Chris Brownridge stated, “Over the last 100 years, music artists have used Phantom to project their identity and challenge convention. Their motor cars often became icons in their own right, with a lasting place in the history of modern music.”
Honoring a Cultural Legacy
The choice of Tinside Lido, a heritage site linked to Britain’s rich cultural history, underscored Rolls-Royce’s intent to connect tradition with modern identity. By revisiting the legend of Keith Moon, the company aims to highlight the Phantom’s enduring appeal to contemporary artists and its storied past.
As part of a broader initiative to celebrate the Phantom’s centenary in 2025, Rolls-Royce plans to host additional events leading up to the milestone. The brand’s efforts reflect not only a commitment to honoring its heritage but also a desire to engage new generations of admirers.
This unique stunt signals an exciting start to the Phantom’s centenary celebrations, reinforcing its status as a cultural icon. With further events anticipated, the legacy of the Phantom continues to thrive, capturing the imagination of both long-time enthusiasts and new fans alike.
