Governor Acharya Reviews Key Projects to Drive Growth in Cachar

On March 2, 2024, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya led a comprehensive review meeting in Silchar with officials from Cachar District. The meeting focused on assessing the progress of various central and state flagship initiatives, alongside discussing strategies for overall regional development. The governor met with District Commissioner Mridul Yadav and department heads at the District Commissioner’s office to evaluate ongoing projects and identify areas for improvement.
A significant topic of discussion was the Amrit Sarovar initiative, aimed at enhancing water conservation and community resources. Acharya sought detailed updates on crucial infrastructure components, including flagpoles, shades, and seating arrangements, which are essential for the successful implementation of this scheme.
The governor also highlighted the potential for fish farming in Cachar, emphasizing the region’s vast resources. He inquired about the current status of hatchery facilities and the supply of fish seeds, underscoring the need for improved infrastructure to increase productivity in the fisheries sector.
In addressing health concerns, Acharya reviewed the TB Mukt Abhiyan, urging officials to intensify their efforts under the Nikshay Mitra initiative. He called for heightened sensitivity and determination to eradicate tuberculosis from the state, acknowledging the ongoing challenges associated with this public health issue.
The meeting also included discussions on the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). Acharya expressed satisfaction with the scheme’s implementation and advocated for greater public awareness regarding affordable Jan Aushadhi medicines, which aim to improve health access for all citizens.
Education was another critical focus of the review. The governor examined measures to reduce school drop-out rates, emphasizing the importance of addressing the challenges faced by single-teacher schools. He encouraged officials to explore strategies that would enhance student retention and engagement. Furthermore, Acharya urged the promotion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the National Service Scheme (NSS) among students, aiming to foster leadership and community service.
In addition to these initiatives, the governor assessed the performance of key departments, including Public Works Department (PWD), agriculture, Public Health Engineering (PHE), social forestry, and irrigation. This comprehensive review aimed to ensure that all sectors are aligned with the broader goals of development and progress in Cachar.
As the meeting concluded, Acharya reiterated the importance of collaborative efforts among officials to drive sustainable growth in the region. The outcomes of this review are expected to guide future initiatives and enhance the quality of life for the residents of Cachar.
