VMC Mandates Full-Time Doctor Presence at Health Centres
The health department of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has mandated that doctors stationed at civic health centres must maintain a full-time presence during operational hours. This directive comes after rising complaints regarding the inconsistent functioning of outpatient departments (OPDs).
Both urban primary health centres (UPHCs) and urban community health centres (UCHCs) are expected to adhere to these new guidelines. UCHCs will operate their general OPDs continuously, providing patient admission facilities around the clock. During a recent meeting, senior health officials emphasized the need for doctors to ensure that the OPDs at both UPHCs and UCHCs function according to the established schedule.
From 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, UPHCs are required to serve patients, while UCHCs must remain operational 24 hours a day. Doctors have been instructed to treat all patients without exception during these designated hours.
To enhance transparency and accessibility, health centres will display boards outlining the timings and services available. This initiative aims to improve communication and ensure that community members are well-informed about the healthcare services they can access.
As part of the enforcement of this directive, the health department will conduct weekly review meetings for each zone. These meetings will particularly focus on UPHCs identified as having weaker service delivery.
The VMC’s move is part of a broader effort to enhance healthcare access and ensure that residents receive timely medical assistance. The commitment to maintaining full-time staffing at health centres reflects an understanding of the critical role these facilities play in the community’s health.
In light of these developments, the VMC aims to foster a more reliable healthcare environment, directly addressing public concerns regarding the availability of medical services. This proactive approach is expected to improve patient care and overall satisfaction with civic health services in Vadodara.
