On Thursday, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria participated in the state-level ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ programme held at the Tagore Theatre. The event aimed to promote patriotism, national unity, and cultural dignity among attendees. The celebration featured a handicraft exhibition organized by the departments of social justice, culture, and school education, which transformed the theatre’s complex into a vibrant representation of a “Developed India.” Visitors enjoyed a showcase of culture, handicrafts, and folk art from various states, reflecting the rich diversity of the country.

The event also included energetic presentations by students, filling the stage with a spirit of patriotism. In his address, Governor Kataria emphasized that the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign transcends mere symbolism, evolving into a significant movement for patriotism and public engagement. He stated that the tricolour represents the nation’s identity, ideals, and self-respect.

Honoring Freedom Fighters and Historical Significance

During his speech, Kataria recalled the pivotal moments in India’s freedom struggle, asserting that “India’s independence is not of a single day, but it is a glorious history written in blood.” He referenced the spark ignited by Mangal Pandey in 1857, leading up to complete independence in 1947. The governor paid tribute to renowned freedom fighters, including Madanlal Dhingra, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bipin Chandra Pal, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, and Veer Savarkar, highlighting their sacrifices that restored India’s identity.

Kataria specifically noted Punjab’s crucial role in the freedom struggle, recalling the tragic events of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He articulated that the pain from the Partition tragedy serves as a reminder of the value of unity, brotherhood, and tolerance, which he described as essential strengths for the nation. The governor characterized the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign as a vital effort to rekindle this national spirit.

Education’s Role in Fostering Patriotism

In his remarks, Kataria praised the educational institutions in Chandigarh, commending teachers and students for their contributions to knowledge acquisition and value-building. He underlined their role in strengthening the spirit of patriotism among the youth. The governor’s message resonated with the audience, reinforcing the importance of nurturing a sense of national pride and identity.

The “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative continues to inspire citizens across India to display the national flag proudly, fostering a collective sense of unity and purpose. As the country commemorates its independence, events like these serve to remind people of the sacrifices made for freedom and the ongoing responsibility to uphold national values.

The celebration at the Tagore Theatre exemplifies a growing movement to engage citizens in reflecting on their heritage and reinforcing bonds of community, emphasizing that patriotism is vital in shaping India’s future.
