Tamil Nadu Officer Killed While Responding to Domestic Dispute

A Special Sub Inspector of the Tamil Nadu Police was fatally attacked while intervening in a domestic dispute in the Gudimangalam area of Tiruppur District. The incident occurred late on the night of August 5, 2023, when the officer, identified as M Shanmugavel, aged 57, responded to reports of a drunken altercation between a man and his son.

Upon arriving at a private farm around 23:00, Shanmugavel, accompanied by Armed Reserve Police constable Azhaguraja, attempted to de-escalate the situation. The officers sought to calm the two individuals involved, but the situation quickly turned violent. One of the men suddenly attacked Shanmugavel with a sickle, forcing Azhaguraja to retreat for safety.

Despite immediate medical attention, Shanmugavel later succumbed to his injuries. The Tamil Nadu Police condemned the attack and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their colleague, highlighting the dangers law enforcement officers face daily.
