Perplexity AI CEO Claims Comet Browser Will Replace Recruiters
Aravind Srinivas, co-founder and CEO of Perplexity AI, has made a bold assertion: the company’s Comet browser could entirely replace administrative assistants and recruiters in the workplace. Speaking on the The Verge podcast on August 2, 2023, Srinivas described how the Comet browser, integrated with advanced language models, automates many recruitment tasks typically handled by humans.
According to Srinivas, a single prompt on the Comet browser is capable of managing candidate sourcing, outreach, response tracking, and even spreadsheet updates. The browser can schedule interviews by syncing calendars and generating meeting briefs, effectively eliminating the need for tedious manual follow-ups. “A recruiter’s week’s worth of work is just one prompt,” he stated, adding that it should function proactively without the need for user input.
Srinivas anticipates that such automation will become standard as AI technologies continue to advance. He envisions AI agents taking over administrative roles, managing schedules, paperwork, and follow-ups, as the capabilities of AI models improve.
Currently, Comet is accessible to paying users, but Perplexity AI has begun offering limited access to free users. Srinivas has indicated that while the basic features may become widely available, more advanced functionalities will remain exclusive to premium users. This strategy reflects the company’s aim to balance accessibility with the value of its more sophisticated offerings.
The Comet browser is marketed not just as a web browser but as a tool equipped with generative AI features. These include the ability to create graphics, text, and emails, as well as supporting AI agents that can perform tasks like booking tickets through websites.
Srinivas has previously advised young professionals to quickly adapt to AI technologies or risk falling behind in the job market. He emphasized that those who become proficient with AI tools will likely see an increase in employability. His call to action encourages young people to invest time in learning about AI platforms instead of passively engaging with social media.
Perplexity AI recently secured additional funding, raising its valuation to $18 billion. This financial backing underscores the growing interest and investment in AI-driven solutions within the business landscape.
