Apara Mehta Reflects on Emotional Reunion with Smriti Irani in KSBKBT 2

The long-awaited return of the iconic television series Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 premiered on July 29, 2023, at 22:30. Created by Ektaa Kapoor, the new season features beloved original cast members, including Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay. Among the surprises in the first episode was the unexpected cameo by Apara Mehta, who reprised her role as Savita. In an exclusive interview, Mehta shared her emotional experience reuniting with Irani and detailed their poignant scene together.
Reflecting on her experience, Apara Mehta recounted how she filmed her scene just a few days into the production schedule. “I shot on the second or third day of the schedule. It was wonderful to meet Smriti and Amar after such a long time,” she said. The actress also noted that they were joined by Muzammil Desai, who was once an assistant director on the original show and is now the director of this new iteration.
Emotional Connections Shine Through
Mehta described her reunion with Irani as deeply moving. “We just rehearsed for a while, did our reading, and then shot the scene. In an hour, we were done,” she explained. Both actresses felt a strong emotional connection during their performance, with Mehta stating, “We both had tears in our eyes. It felt so natural and normal.” The scene was shot in one take, capturing the genuine emotions that the characters experienced.
As a veteran actress, Apara Mehta expressed her excitement upon receiving the call to participate in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2. “Kyunki is a very big part of my career. The last time my character died was so impactful, and it garnered the expected TRPs,” she shared. She recalled how her character, Savita, had a significant storyline that included a dramatic disagreement with Tulsi, played by Irani.
A Nostalgic Return to a Beloved Series
Mehta reminisced about a particularly memorable scene from the original series that highlighted the depth of her character. “When I realized Tulsi was right, a massive accident occurred. It was filmed at Churchgate in real traffic on a Sunday evening. We shot from evening until night, and it was incredible,” she recalled. “Bringing me back in any other way would have been very unfair.”
The actress emphasized the familiarity of the set and the crew, noting that many familiar faces were present during her return. “I wasn’t expecting anything. But when I got the call, I felt I had to be a part of it. It was so normal and natural,” she concluded.
The combination of nostalgia and emotional depth has resonated with viewers, making the premiere of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 a significant moment in television history. As audiences reconnect with these iconic characters, they are reminded of the powerful stories that have shaped their viewing experiences over the years.
